Ever Wonder to Yourself: How did I miss the boat again?
There are so many times when I wonder to myself - looking back – what the heck just happened?
Life is so full of distractions - and the “all consuming things” that do not matter - that we are often consumed by them as life goes by. We often miss key opportunities to change our life – or to seize a special moment – because we are so focused on all the things that didn’t matter in the first place.
Not unlike Mark Twain’s quote,
“I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened.”
But in that moment of distraction the very opportunity – the thing we were waiting for or looking into – passes us like a leaf bobbing down the river silently floating past us, unnoticed.
Maybe emotions flare - or worry creeps in - or the fear of loss - or peer scrutiny - supersede the very thing that really did matter for a brief moment in time, rendering it yet another unrealized potential in the graveyard of possibilities.
And when that happens, what remains?
Is it the thing that mattered so much? Or is it the realization that we’re standing on the dock wondering how the boat left without us on board?
AGAIN…
• the cruise we were going to take
• the fun we were going to have
• the life we were going to live
